Notice regarding the Second Phase of the NIH Roadmap Exploratory Centers for Interdisciplinary Research Exploratory Centers for Interdisciplinary Research are part of a trans-NIH Roadmap initiative designed to lower organizational barriers that impede research and enable scientists to conduct research across disciplines, creating solutions to biomedical problems that have not been solved using traditional, disciplinary approaches. BioMed21 reorganizes the life sciences at Washington University to address the biggest questions about disease: their origins, how they affect us and how we can cure them. It will reshape University culture over the next 10 years to rapidly convert the knowledge of the genetic blueprint of human beings into effective, individualized treatments. The Center for Cardiovascular Research, (CCR) at Washington University School of Medicine promotes fundamental research focused on biologic processes relevant to cardiovascular disease. Under the direction of Daniel P. Kelly, MD, a major objective of the CCR is to establish novel interfaces between cardiovascular researchers in diverse scientific disciplines, including molecular and cellular biology, physiology, biophysics, and bioorganic chemistry.
